An oven may heat slowly, unevenly, or to the wrong temperature because of a failed heating or ignition component, a temperature sensor, airflow problem, door issue, calibration setting, or electronic control fault.
Common possible causes
A symptom can have more than one cause. These are common possibilities—not a diagnosis of your specific appliance.
- Bake or broil element not operating normally
- Ignition component weak or failing on a gas oven
- Temperature sensor or control problem
- Door, fan, or airflow issue affecting temperature
Safe basic checks
Use only checks that do not require removing panels, touching wiring, or working with gas or internal refrigeration components.
- Confirm the cooking mode and temperature were entered correctly.
- Allow the full preheat time shown by the appliance.
- Check that racks and foil are not blocking intended airflow.
- Stop use if you smell gas, see arcing, or the appliance overheats.
When to call an appliance technician
Request service when the oven will not heat, temperature remains far from the setting, ignition is delayed, or an error returns. Do not test live electrical or gas components yourself.
